SHA-256 Generator

Create a SHA-256 hash (and other SHA variants) of any text.

Hash text with SHA-256

SHA-256 produces a 64-character fingerprint of any input and is the workhorse of modern integrity checks — used to verify downloads, index content, and compare values safely. The same input always yields the same digest, and you can't reverse it. This tool computes SHA-256 (and related SHA variants) of your text directly in the browser.

How to use it

  1. Paste the text you want to hash.
  2. Read the SHA-256 digest, or switch to another variant.
  3. Copy the hash to compare or record it.

What it's good for

Questions people ask

Can SHA-256 be reversed? No — it's one-way. For short, guessable inputs, though, an attacker can try candidates, so it alone isn't enough to protect passwords.

Is my text sent anywhere? No — hashing uses your browser's crypto engine locally.
